Sod Installation in Charlotte, NC

Fresh-cut Bermuda, Zoysia, Fescue & Centipede sod installed over properly prepped soil.

Service Overview

Sod Installation tailored to your property

A new lawn isn't just rolled-out grass — it's the result of stripping the old turf, regrading for drainage, amending Charlotte's red clay with quality topsoil, and laying fresh-cut sod tight enough that you can't see the seams a week later. We do all of that in a single visit so you walk out the next morning to a finished, even, deep-green lawn.

We install Bermuda and Zoysia for sun-soaked yards in Ballantyne, Waxhaw, and Fort Mill, Tall Fescue for the shaded lots common in Davidson and parts of Cornelius, and Centipede where a low-maintenance option fits. Every roll is cut the morning of install and laid the same day for the highest take rate possible.

How we scope your project

Every property is different, so every quote is too. Here's the general path we take from first call to finished work — adjusted to fit the size, complexity, and goals of your specific project.

  1. 1. On-site measurement

We measure the lawn area, evaluate sun and shade, check soil conditions, and recommend the right sod variety for your specific lot.

  2. 2. Old turf removal & soil prep

We strip the existing lawn, regrade where needed for proper drainage away from the foundation, and amend the soil with quality topsoil and starter fertilizer.

  3. 3. Same-day fresh-cut install

Sod is cut at the farm that morning and laid tight with staggered seams. We roll it for full soil contact and water it in before we leave.

  4. 4. Care plan handoff

You get a printed 30-day watering schedule and the do's and don'ts for the first mow, first fertilization, and first weeks of root establishment.

Why Piedmont Landscape & Irrigation

  • Sod cut the morning of install — never sitting on a pallet for days losing moisture.
  • We pick varieties that survive Charlotte's heat, humidity, and clay — not whatever the box store had on sale.
  • Soil is prepped properly: graded, tilled, and amended — not just rolled out over compacted dirt.
  • Licensed, insured, and locally owned in the Charlotte metro.

Frequently asked questions

How much does sod installation cost in Charlotte?+

Most residential sod installs run $1.20–$2.50 per square foot installed, depending on variety, property preparation needed, and access. We give flat written quotes after measuring the lawn — no surprises.

Which sod variety is best for my yard?+

It depends on sun exposure. Bermuda and Zoysia thrive in 6+ hours of sun and handle heat well; Tall Fescue is the right call for shaded yards; Centipede works for low-maintenance properties. We'll evaluate your lot and recommend the right one.

When is the best time to install sod?+

Warm-season sod (Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede) installs best from April through August. Cool-season Fescue installs best September through November. With proper watering we install year-round.

How soon can I walk on or mow new sod?+

Stay off it for the first 2 weeks while roots establish. First mow is typically around 2–3 weeks at a high blade setting. We include all of this in the care plan.
