Outdoor Kitchens & Pergolas in Charlotte, NC

Built-in grills, stone counters, pergolas, and full outdoor kitchen build-outs.

Service Overview

Outdoor Kitchens & Pergolas tailored to your property

A real outdoor kitchen — not a freestanding grill rolled out from the garage — fundamentally changes how a backyard gets used. Built-in grill, side burner, prep counter, refrigerator, and storage at counter height means you actually cook outside instead of running back inside every five minutes. Add a pergola overhead and you've got shade, partial weather protection, and a vertical anchor that turns the kitchen into a real outdoor room.

We design and build custom outdoor kitchens and pergolas across Charlotte, Huntersville, Cornelius, Mooresville, Ballantyne, Waxhaw, Fort Mill, and Tega Cay. Cedar timber pergolas, low-maintenance aluminum pergolas, and stone-veneered kitchen islands with granite counters and integrated appliances. Full gas, water, and electrical runs handled by licensed trades as part of the build.

Who it's for

Homeowners who entertain regularly

If you've got people over more than once a month, a built-in outdoor kitchen pays back in convenience and entertainment value within a couple of seasons. No more shuttling food through the back door.

Properties with a great patio that needs a vertical anchor

Big patios can feel exposed without something overhead. A pergola creates shade, defines the seating area, and adds architectural weight that the patio alone can't.

Backyard renovations going all-in

Building a paver patio, fire pit, and outdoor kitchen as one coordinated project costs less and looks better than doing each one separately a year apart.

How we scope your project

Every property is different, so every quote is too. Here's the general path we take from first call to finished work — adjusted to fit the size, complexity, and goals of your specific project.

  1. 1. Design consultation & 3D rendering

We meet on site, scope the kitchen and pergola, take measurements, and present a 3D rendering so you can see the finished space before approval.

  2. 2. Trades coordination

Licensed gas, electrical, and plumbing trades coordinated for runs to the kitchen — pulled and inspected per code. Pergola lumber sourced and pre-cut where possible.

  3. 3. Construction

Kitchen island built on engineered base with stone or paver veneer, granite or stone counter installed, appliances cut in. Pergola posts set on concrete footings, beams and rafters assembled, finish applied.

  4. 4. Final connections & walk-through

Gas and electric tested, all appliances commissioned, and we walk you through grill controls, gas shut-offs, and care for stone counters, pergola wood, and any electronics.

Why Piedmont Landscape & Irrigation

  • Stone-veneered kitchen islands on engineered base — won't crack or settle like budget builds.
  • Licensed gas and electrical trades — code-compliant and inspected, not 'creative' wiring.
  • Pergolas on concrete footings with proper post bases — stand up to Carolina wind storms.
  • 3D rendering before approval — you see the finished space before any work begins.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Charlotte?+

Most residential outdoor kitchens with built-in grill, stone counter, and storage start around $14,000–$22,000. Adding pergola, refrigerator, side burner, and pizza oven pushes higher. Full builds with patio integration commonly run $25,000–$60,000+.

Do I need a permit for a pergola or outdoor kitchen?+

Outdoor kitchens with gas, electrical, or plumbing runs require permits. Pergolas over a certain size or attached to the house also require permits. We pull all required permits as part of the project.

Cedar pergola or aluminum pergola — which is better?+

Cedar is warmer, more traditional, and ages beautifully — but needs sealing every 2–3 years. Aluminum (often with louvered roof) is virtually maintenance-free, lasts decades, and offers powered roof options. Both are excellent — depends on look and maintenance preference.

Can you tie into my existing gas and electric?+

Yes — we coordinate licensed gas and electrical contractors to run new lines from your existing service to the outdoor kitchen. Most homes can support a built-in grill and basic kitchen without service upgrades.
