Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control in Charlotte, NC

Seasonal lawn care program with pre-emergent, post-emergent, fertilizer, and grub control.

Service Overview

Fertilization & Weed Control tailored to your property

A thick, green lawn doesn't come from mowing alone. It comes from getting the right products onto the grass at the right time of year — pre-emergent before crabgrass germinates in March, balanced fertilizer through the growing season, post-emergent only when broadleaf weeds actually show up, lime to correct Charlotte's chronically acidic clay soil, and grub control timed to the beetle life cycle.

We run 6- and 7-step lawn care programs tailored to your turf type — Bermuda and Zoysia in Ballantyne and Fort Mill, Tall Fescue in Davidson and the shadier parts of Cornelius. Programs can be bundled with weekly maintenance or stand alone, with each visit timed to actual Charlotte-area weather and growing conditions, not a generic national calendar.

A snapshot of the work we commonly take on under this service. Your scope is built from what your property actually needs — pick and choose, or let us recommend.

Who it's for

Homeowners with patchy or weed-filled lawns

If you've got crabgrass every August and nothing seems to work, you're treating reactively instead of proactively. A timed program stops weeds before they germinate.

Lawns that look 'okay' but never great

Mowing keeps a lawn alive. A real fertilization program is what turns it dark green, thick, and actually photo-worthy from the street.

New homeowners & new sod owners

Starting with a clean slate — sod, seed, or a property you just bought — is the perfect time to start a program before weeds establish.

How we scope your project

Every property is different, so every quote is too. Here's the general path we take from first call to finished work — adjusted to fit the size, complexity, and goals of your specific project.

  1. 1. Soil & turf evaluation

We identify your turf type, take a look at any weed pressure, and recommend a 6- or 7-step program tailored to your lawn — not a generic package.

  2. 2. Timed seasonal applications

Pre-emergent in late winter, fertilizer rounds spaced through the growing season, post-emergent only when needed, lime as soil pH dictates, grub control timed to insect cycles.

  3. 3. Spot treatment between rounds

If weeds break through between scheduled visits, we come back at no additional charge to spot-treat. The program is the result, not just the visits.

  4. 4. Fall aeration & overseeding (Fescue)

Cool-season Fescue lawns get core aeration and overseeding in September/October — the highest-impact single thing you can do to thicken a Fescue lawn.

Why Piedmont Landscape & Irrigation

  • Programs timed to Charlotte's actual climate, not a generic national schedule.
  • Pre-emergent applied at the right soil temperature — too early it breaks down, too late and crabgrass is already up.
  • Free between-round spot treatment if weeds break through — we own the result.
  • Bundled discount when paired with weekly maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a lawn care program cost in Charlotte?+

Most residential 6- or 7-step programs run $55–$95 per application depending on lot size and turf type. Annual programs average $400–$700 total. Bundled with maintenance for additional savings.

When should pre-emergent be applied?+

Late February to early March in the Charlotte area, before soil temperatures hit 55°F for 3 consecutive days (when crabgrass germinates). A second split application in early summer extends control.

Do I need lime?+

Most Charlotte-area lawns do — our clay soil runs acidic (pH 5.0–5.5) which locks out nutrients. We test pH and apply pelletized lime as needed, typically every 12–18 months.

Will the chemicals harm my pets or kids?+

All products are EPA-registered and applied per label. Standard guidance is to keep pets and kids off the lawn until granular products are watered in and any liquid spray has dried — typically 1–2 hours.
