Decorative Edging & Bed Shaping in Charlotte, NC
Steel, stone, and hand-cut edges that define beds and lock in a finished landscape look.
Service Overview
Decorative Edging & Bed Shaping tailored to your property
An edge is what separates a landscape that looks finished from one that looks like it's halfway done. A sharp, defined line between mulch and turf signals care and intention — and it physically keeps mulch from washing into the lawn and turf from creeping into the beds. We install steel, aluminum, stone, paver, and hand-cut edges across Charlotte and the greater metro.
The right edge depends on your style, your property, and your budget. Hand-cut spade edges are clean and inexpensive but need annual refresh. Steel and aluminum edging is invisible and permanent. Natural stone and cobblestone borders make a bold visual statement. We'll walk you through the options and install whatever fits the property best.

Properties getting a full landscape refresh
New beds, new mulch, new edges — done together so the finished landscape looks designed, not patched.
HOAs & commercial properties
Entrance beds, parking islands, and common areas with consistent paver or steel edging that holds up to mowers and time.
How we scope your project
Every property is different, so every quote is too. Here's the general path we take from first call to finished work — adjusted to fit the size, complexity, and goals of your specific project.
1. Walk & design
We walk the beds with you, talk through edge material options, and re-shape bed lines into clean curves or formal straight runs depending on your style.
2. Material selection
Powder-coated steel, aluminum, paver soldier course, natural fieldstone, or cobblestone — we show you samples and pricing for each option.
3. Trenching & install
Edges trenched to proper depth, back-supported with soil, and locked in flush with the surrounding grade so mowers can ride right up to them.
4. Mulch & cleanup
We can refresh mulch behind the new edge in the same visit so the finished beds look complete the day we leave.
Why Piedmont Landscape & Irrigation
- Steel and aluminum edging set flush with grade — mowers ride right over it without damage.
- Stone and paver edges set on a proper compacted base, not just dropped on the dirt.
- Bed lines re-shaped into intentional curves — no awkward jagged transitions.
- Edge work paired with mulch refresh in the same visit when you want it.

Frequently asked questions
Which edging type lasts the longest?+
Powder-coated steel and aluminum edging is the most durable — installed properly it lasts decades. Natural stone and paver edges are also permanent. Hand-cut spade edges are the most affordable but need annual refresh.
How much does edging cost installed?+
Steel/aluminum runs roughly $9–$15 per linear foot installed; paver soldier course $15–$25; natural stone $20–$40. Hand-cut spade edges are typically billed by the bed, not by the foot. Flat quotes after walking the property.
Can you re-shape my existing bed lines?+
Absolutely — bed re-shaping is one of the highest-impact things we do. Sharper curves, cleaner transitions, and consistent depth turn an awkward bed into one that frames the property properly.
Will edging stop grass from growing into my beds?+
Steel, aluminum, and stone edging dramatically slows turf creep — especially aggressive Bermuda. Paired with proper mulch depth and seasonal touch-ups, your edges stay clean year-round.
